The last years of the Edo Period, and the Meiji, Taisho, Showa, Heisei Periods. This building, which has existed side by side with the city of Kanazawa for over 150 years, is a structure which incorporates five historical periods in Japanese history. This building has been certified as a designated preserved structure in Kanazawa city, and is a 160-year-old Kanazawa Machiya (traditional wooden townhouse). Since that time, Kanazawa’s carpenters have made Zashiki (tatami rooms).
