1940 (Showa 14). This saw the birth of the Nozawa Syouten store, in Iwanai Town which is the place for herring. Kazunoko, or herring roe, in the old day implied a sense of "increasing" in Japanese, and as such were considered to be an auspicious food for a thriving business and wishing for the prosperity of descendants. In Japan at the New Year Holidays it was an essential food item, which even today is still sought after.
1955 (Showa 30) Herring fishing was interrupted, and herring started to be imported from overseas. The local area became a manufacturing center.
2011 (Heisei 23) - incorporation. Straight to Kazunoko! The original aim was to develop and commercialize a product which is tasty, and which would bring a smile to customer’s faces.
