Masumotoya was originally established as a liquor store in 1949. The third generation owner of this store made a decision to change the shop concept to one of being a select shop of cuisine and sake, with a product concept of“delicious, healthy, and rare." Soon after they started selling Masumotoya branded Karinto (fried brown sugar biscuits) and marketed Karinto as a snack perfect to eat with a drink.
As a specialist in serving up sake alongside old-fashioned Japanese sweets they have rebranded Karinto in order to meet this purpose. This Karinto is made from carefully selected ingredients which don’t include additives, and has gained a reputation amongst gourmands everywhere.
